Lady Liberty. Hey girl.
Eight weeks out of the country. Four months on the road, total. I landed at JFK airport in New York and it just felt great to be home. It’s been years since I left the country, and the feeling of coming home is very sweet. I love it here.
One day in New York. Pizza with one friend under the Brooklyn Bridge, coffee with another. Dinner in Manhattan with my brother and sister in law. And the only thing on my mind was how strange it was to hear English spoken everywhere I went. I kept wanting to ask people questions in Spanish. This might take some adjusting.
I’m writing this message well after the fact of coming home. I’ve been letting the fact of the trip just wash over me. This blog has been invaluable for me, as I’m already reliving moments that were slipping away just by clicking back a couple of pages. Traveling is good. Writing about traveling is just as good. I’m reading Mark Twain’s Life on the Mississippi right now. Possibly our most important writer, and a huge chunk of his work was travel writing. Something to be said for that.
More updates soon. Decompression is still on. I’m in Providence now and close to having a new home. After four months. Won’t that be strange.
